VICTORIAN

by Mary Katrantzou

Athenian-born designer Mary Katrantzou, who studied architecture in the US and textile and fashion design in London, stands for colourful digital prints, characterised by a contradictory aesthetic of mixed media, craftsmanship and opulent ornamentation. Her creations, with which Mary Katrantzou has inspired and changed the fashion world of the 21st century, are celebrated as haute couture on the international catwalks. At the same time, in cooperation with well-known brands and fashion shops, she offers high-quality, prêt-à-porter fashion and accessories.

Their shared commitment to premium quality led to the collaboration of Mary Katrantzou and Villeroy & Boch Tiles. An architect by training, the designer views her work holistically and was delighted with the idea of placing her understanding of fashion in a spatial context. Villeroy & Boch, in turn, accepted the challenge of transferring a sophisticated design to ceramic tiles.

The VICTORIAN BY MARY KATRANTZOU tile collection is the harmonious symbiosis of high fashion design and classic tile art – and at the same time a fascinatingly versatile and clearly structured design concept for walls and floors.

The décor concept focuses on a Victorian butterfly, which Mary Katrantzou turns into a bright and colourful ambassador of nature in the interior, displayed against a look of white and black marble. Framed in gold, or with postage-stamp perforations typical for Katrantzou’s fashions, these motifs have the look of tiny works of art. There are also diverse décors of classic geometric shapes that combine perfectly with the butterfly motifs while functioning independently at the same time. With her countless installation variations, she bridges the gap between exquisite art and classic design.
